    Meet Lily!

    18th October 2012

We saved the cutest for last in our meet the new intern series! This is Lily and she is going to be doing interviews of amazing & inspiring women that we at Underbrella look up to! If you have any ladies that you’d like to see being interviewed, send your suggestions Lily’s Way!

What’s playing on repeat on your iPod right now?

“Below My Feet” by Mumford and Sons. Let’s just say I have an obsession with their new album.

What’s the last book you read?

Though I’ve been reading a lot for school, the last personal book I read was “The Great Gatsby.” It’s my favorite book of all time and I reread it for the umpteenth time this summer.

What’s the snack food you’re addicted to?

    Reese’s minis. Enough said.

When you’re out on the town, what’s your go-to piece you just have to wear?

My bangles. I love the way they look stacked on your arm and it adds movement while you’re dancing!

If you had to trade lives with someone for a year, who would you pick?

Anna Wintour, the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Magazine. It would be incredible to feel what it was like to have that much power in the fashion world.

Who’s been the most inspirational person in your life?

I can’t choose between my mom and my dad. I know it’s cheesy to say but both shaped me into the person I am today. I get my confidence from my mom and my sense of humor from my dad.

Tell us something embarrassing about yourself!

Oh god where do I begin… I very often have one person dance parties in my dorm room…

What’s your favorite thing about being involved with Underbrella?

The ability to learn more about the fashion world. It’s a great opportunity to learn and the people here are incredible!

One last thing we are asking everyone, what’s your must have comfort during that time of the month?

Chocolate. Lots and lots of chocolate.

“I don’t know a single dress code that doesn’t allow lipstick.”

    14th October 2012

Jane + Jen from IamtheEverydayGirl.com invited me and Sierra Barter to share our office fashion tips in their rad style series. We had fun shooting and thanks to Jen’s excellent photography skills, I think they came out super cute. Here’s a taste of the interview:

Tips for expressing personal style in between the lines of a dress code?

Julie:  Too often, people are afraid to push the envelope.  Even with a dress code, you can still make a statement.  A pencil skirt is super professional, but wear a bright color if that’s what you feel.  Color is a great way to bring fun to your style, while still wearing those pieces that are tailored and modest for a work setting.  And lipstick!  Bright lipstick dresses everything up and I don’t know a single dress code that doesn’t allow lipstick.

Sierra:  Accessories!  I love, love, love scarves.  My favorites are all from H&M or Gap and all under $20.  I really can’t fathom spending over that on a scarf.  Crazy pants.  Scarves are a great way to dress up just your basic black dress.  Another — bright colored tights.  It’s a fun way to punch it up.

    Meet Alix!

    12th October 2012

Meet another member of our fabulous Underbrella team, Alix Taylor! Alix is our intern who is reaching out to various fitness groups and gurus around Providence to spread the word of Underbrella! Get to know this sweet girl, who comes to us all the way from Atlanta!

What’s playing on repeat on your iPod right now?

Driving in Cars with Boys by Lana Del Rey

What’s the last book you read?

I’m a comparative literature major, so I’m normally reading 2-3 books for school every week, but the last book I read just for fun was The Family Fang. I finished it in maybe a day, it was so good!

What’s the snack food you’re addicted to?

I’m honestly not a big snacker, but I live for french fries. I eat waffle fries as a meal sometimes, with ketchup I’m convinced it’s balanced.

When you’re out on the town, what’s your go-to piece you just have to wear?

For Christmas last year my mom got me a Kate Spade clutch that looks like an old copy of the Great Gatsby. Until I read the Sound and the Fury Gatsby was my favorite book so it was so special to me, plus the fun yellow color makes it a great accent piece.

If you had to trade lives with someone for a year, who would you pick?

Jenna Lyons. Biggest girl crush ever.

Who’s been the most inspirational person in your life?

My mom. She’s the most incredible person I know.

Tell us something embarrassing about yourself!

I was my high school mascot senior year. And I rocked the giant eagle suit!

What’s your favorite thing about being involved with Underbrella?

I love getting to interact with people and get out there in the Providence community!

One last thing we are asking everyone, what’s your must have comfort during that time of the month?

Hot water bottle or heated blanket. I just need to feel warm and cozy.

Last night at the Underbrella offices we invited all of the girl’s to get to know each other a little better! We also celebrated Sharon’s birthday with a delicious pumpkin pie that Amanda baked! Our craft of the night was creating poster boards for our head-shot backgrounds for the new website. Everyone was so creative and they all turned out to be pretty adorable! We will definitely need to do more of these in the future…so fun!
